Empowering our elders: A Strategy For Living and Ageing Well in Port Lincoln

Project Overview

The City of Port Lincoln has adopted its first Empowering our elders: A Strategy for Living and Ageing Well in Port Lincoln.

This strategy responds to an ageing population and new challenges for people as they grow older, the strategy, "Empowering our elders: A Strategy for Living and Ageing Well in Port Lincoln", maps Council's role in empowering residents to live and age well.

The strategy was also informed by a robust, initial consultation with representatives of local community and organisations, and was also made available for wider public comment for the period of March 21 to April 11.

Office for Ageing Well, SA Health funded the Empowering our elders project 2023/24 through the Age Friendly SA Grant program, which included establishment of this strategy.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting on Monday, 20 May 2024, Elected Members considered the final draft strategy and the public consultation feedback received, before adopting the strategy.

Members of the community were invited to have their say (online or in hard copy) on the Empowering Our Elders: A Strategy for Living and Ageing Well in Port Lincoln during the public consultation period from Thursday 21 March to 4pm on Thursday 11 April 2024.

The strategy was made available via the online portal, and in hard copy at the City of Port Lincoln offices at 60 Tasman Terrace, Port Lincoln, at the Nautilus Arts Centre at 66 Tasman Terrace, Port Lincoln, or the Port Lincoln Library at 2 London Street, Port Lincoln.

Thank you to all community members who submitted their feedback on the strategy - all submissions were carefully considered and addressed within the consultation report and final draft strategy presented to Council.

Council decision:

At the 20 May 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting, Elected Members considered public consultation feedback and adopted Empowering our elders: A Strategy for Living and Ageing Well in Port Lincoln.
